Went to the used bookstore today. Found a copy of The Killing Star. It is supposedly one of the few realistic portrayals of interstellar war in science fiction; that is, instead of a bunch of bullshit space battles and magic technology, the enemies simply fire missles moving at a significant fraction of c at the Earth, obliterating it with all that kinetic energy. Unfortunately, even that wasn't portrayed realistically, despite assurances of hard science credibility by the author, and the rest of the novel was every bit as horrible as I expected from various reviews.
I think I can do better. My research continues...
I also found Fleet Foxes and a promotional copy of Already Free. "Ownership Reserved by Sony Sale is Unlawful" - LOL. Went looking for the Jurassic Park soundtrack and instead stumbled upon that of Black Snake Moan. Samuel L. Jackson can't sing worth shit, but damn was that a surprisingly good movie.
