The way they focus on snippets of text, their confused and bungled and fabricated legal theories, it is like a religion in the making. They want it to be true so hard.

That is the common theme throughout all right-wing thought kookery. They believe words define reality, and that the words give them special power, that their true knowledge is a magic that places them above the educated, the intelligent, and the influential. They are dumb commoner elitists. They are plagued by status anxiety, desperate to be anything but the lowest rung of society, which is why our black übermensch president drives them absolutely bonkers.

Their royalist rhetoric is no coincidence. They've been systematically trying to redefine the word "republic" for decades, pretending it to be the opposite of "democracy" rather than "monarchy". They believe submission to the correct authority will elevate them over the egalitarian masses. They are loyal. They are pure. They are deserving. They are the house slaves who will be rewarded.
