I wake up every morning to NPR, and sometimes it doesn't actually wake me, and it creeps into my dreams.
In this state, my conscious moral outrage would be muted and I would actually wake up feeling sorry for George Bush, because it was so apparent that he was in way over his head and only following the courses of action that his limited understanding made possible.
It is having the opposite effect on Obama. What I hear in my dreams is the state of impending doom, how the world's economy is on the brink of collapse and how the government is doing nothing but throwing money at the very people who caused it. I want to hear decisive action, I want to hear blame and punishment being assigned, I want to hear a strong leader who knows just what to do and who to do it to, but all I hear is financial jargon and political bickering. Obama is not taking control, he is not owning the problem.
But I have renewed confidence. It is impossible to imagine George Bush, much less any Republican, saying anything with the intelligence and awareness demonstrated in this transcript.
I need to stop worrying. He's got this thing.
(Though I would feel a lot better if we would talk more brazenly, more alpha male, just to put in their place the panicky, stupid herd animals who get their political guidance from Fox and MSNBC.)
