Keeping the faith

PZ Myers offends the transhumanist cult.
Ah, well, PZ - you may be a biologist but you aren't a science fiction author or a transhumanist
Precisely.

I'm in good company, I have also attracted a detractor.

I think I've identified the quality of mine that makes me immune to wishful thinking, that makes me obsessed with morality, that makes me despise emotional reasoning: I follow the god damn consequences.

For some people, it is simply enough that a thing not be determined impossible. And they will latch on to that certainty and hold it like a dream in their hearts and never lift a finger to actualize it themselves. Press them for specifics on the plan to achieve it, and they become offended. How dare you question my dream? You are not qualified! You are too ignorant to perceive it's magnificence!

In some respects, I consider this the failing of our nation. We have too many visionaries and not enough creators. Too many people getting paid to talk, to make decisions, with the mass delusion that these decisions are of herculean difficultly and merit a vastly disproportionate compensation. Our economy is being bled by petty kings and sultans, and most people are too stupid and too submissive to realize this ancient scam. Only after we hand them billions to reward their failure does the populace even start to complain.
